The simple answer is: An Internet connected device with a web browser, including Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Apple Safari. A 2D bar code scanner, like the Zebra DS4308, or a wireless version like the DS8178, help you make the most of PDEVIDENCE. A label printer, including the Brother QL-720NW and the QL-820NWB, will handle your evidence labeling. A more detailed look: There is no special hardware required, beyond an Internet connected device and web browser, to access PDEVIDENCE. To complete the package you’ll want to have a bar code scanner and a label printer available. Any bar code scanner capable of reading Code128 bar codes will work with PDEVIDENCE. We recommend a scanner that can also read 2D bar codes including QR and PDF417, the latter of which is the type of bar code found on the back of US driver’s licenses.

We have tested and use PDEVIDENCE with Windows, Mac and Linux. We have used these operating systems in combination with the Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge browsers. Please note, Microsoft Internet Explorer is no longer under active development and therefore will not support new web application features. While Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 works for many aspects of PDEVIDENCE, it's compatibility is not guaranteed because we employ the latest in web technologies to make our applications faster, smarter and more efficient.

PDEVIDENCE databases and digital evidence live in an encrypted state within the Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud platform. The PDEVIDENCE Evidence Management System currently has an interface with the Pennsylvania cNET project as a partner of DataWorks Plus, Inc. We are a web-based solution under active development so partnering with your records management system is easily within reach via Application Programming Interface (API). In the mean time, we offer the ability to have supplemental narratives e-mailed to you for inclusion in your records management system, if desirable. The PDEVIDENCE Laboratory Information Management System further employs API's to allow query and response for laboratory assignment status.
PDEVIDENCE has been tested with the Brother QL-720NW (end-of-life) and the Brother QL-820NWB, both using the Brother DK-2205 labels. The DK-2205 is a 2.4″ x 100′ roll. See below for detailed configuration settings. Your screen may vary depending upon operating system, driver version and specific printer model. While you will find similar settings in multiple places within the Windows Printer Properties, the settings inherited by the browser will be found here:
  1. Open Control Panel
  2. Click Devices and Printers
  3. Right Click on the Brother Label Printer
  4. Click Printer Properties
  5. Suggestion: Change the name of the printer to Evidence Label Printer, or something similar to help users select the right printer for labels and avoid sending standard print jobs to the label printer.
  6. Click the Advanced Tab at the top of the Printer Properties screen
  7. Click the Printing Defaults button at the bottom of the Advanced tab

Windows 10 Out of the box, your compatible bar code scanner should be able to scan PDEVIDENCE bar code labels. Just follow the quick reference to "ADD ENTER KEY" and also "USB - OVERRIDE CAPS LOCK KEY (ENABLE).

Windows 7 Windows 7 may require the Zebra USB drivers available at Windows 7 is not recommended due to being end-of-life. Microsoft has discontinued all technical support, software updates, security updates, and other updates for Windows 7.
We've seen this one before, particularly when the scanner suffers a configuration snafu or is used in conjunction with other evidence management applications. Start by resetting the scanner to factory defaults. Next, you’ll need to scan the configuration codes to program the scanner to add the ENTER key after each scan. Refer to the Quick Reference Guide for your scanner, or use this PDF.
